Tata Sierra Is The New Mileage King

Tata Motors has shared another big update about its new 1.5L direct-injection turbo-petrol engine, called the 1.5 Hyperion, which powers the newly launched Tata Sierra. A few days ago, the company posted a video showing the Sierra reaching a top speed of 222 kph. Now, a new video highlights something just as impressive: the engine can deliver a maximum mileage of 29.9 kmpl when driven under ideal conditions.

It’s important to note that this is not the real-world fuel economy. The 29.9 kmpl figure comes from a controlled mileage run. In comparison, the ARAI-certified fuel efficiency for the Sierra turbo-petrol is 18 kmpl, and everyday usage will likely be slightly lower.

The test was done at NATRAX in Indore, where the Sierra’s fuel lid was sealed and the SUV was driven non-stop for 12 hours at a steady speed of around 70 kph. In that time, it covered over 800 km. The final figure, 29.9 kmpl, is said to be the highest mileage ever recorded at NATRAX and has been officially certified by the India Book of Records.

The Hyperion engine manages this impressive efficiency with a mix of advanced technologies. It uses AI-optimised direct injection at 350 bar pressure to spray fuel more precisely, and CNC-machined intake and exhaust pathways to let the engine breathe better. It also gets an electrically controlled variable-geometry turbocharger that adjusts the boost in real time. All of this helps the engine burn fuel more cleanly and extract maximum power while staying efficient across different speeds.
